It provides beautiful, practical, and desirable products for various applications, including flooring, decking, and furniture. Timber, with its low emissions, plays a crucial role in climate action, surpassing alternative materials in environmental benefits. Rigorous regulations have maintained a delicate balance between industry and nature, protecting biodiversity and forest health.
However, the sudden termination of native timber harvesting has placed an immense burden on those dedicated to this industry. The six-month adjustment period is woefully inadequate for individuals, businesses, and communities to plan for their futures. Small contracting businesses, the backbone of this industry, are now grappling with consequences beyond their control.

Contracting businesses, often small and hardworking enterprises, find themselves victims of a decision made by the Government. Urgent action is needed to provide fair compensation and support packages that acknowledge their long-term investments.
