Professional Ownership and Driver Wellbeing program
Delivering over 30 free forestry sessions across Australia, specifically for drivers, management and staff within the forest industry.
In July 2019 the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) allocated $140K of heavy vehicle safety funding to AFCA to support the Professional Ownership and Driver Wellbeing program (PODW Program) through the 2019 Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative, supported by the Federal Government.
AFCA is pleased to be partnered with Australian Trucking Safety Services & Solutions (ATSSS) and KJ Training and Consulting to deliver the PODW Program which will provide fundamental psychoeducation tools, addressing the ‘human factors’, for those at highest risk within the forestry of a heavy vehicle accident.
* Please note the WA PODW sessions that were to be held as part of the FIFWA Industry Safety Forums have been postponed due to the current Victorian COVID lockdown. The FIFWA Industry Safety Forums will still run as planned in June and for more information on these please contact Matt at firstname.lastname@example.org
Future PODW sessions will be announced once the current Victorian lockdown is completed
To register for future PODW sessions or for any further information please email email@example.com
About the PODW Program
The Professional Ownership and Driver Wellbeing (PODW) program was developed by ATSSS (Alan Pincott) and KJ Training and Consulting to address the ‘human factor's such as fatigue, inattention and complacency.
These 'human factors' have been the underlying causes of several recent crashes in heavy and light vehicles in the forest industry. The aim is of the PODW program is to guides participants to adopt a proactive, intrinsically motivated view of solutions to driving challenges.
The session is delivered over a 2 ½ hour session by two facilitators and:
Assists drivers and management to collaboratively develop personal management tools.
Challenges participants to examine personal ownership and responsibility for their own and the community’s safety and show them how to develop a personal risk reduction plan.
Builds on key learning outcomes from the Heavy Vehicle Rollover Awareness Program.
Note: The program naturally complements the Rollover Program but is structured as a standalone program so that is also suitable for all parties in the supply chain and drivers that have not participated in the Rollover Program. This includes drivers of light vehicles, and operators of loaders and harvesting equipment.
Inclusion of James Woods CHOICES video
Starting with the February 2020 Queensland sessions, there is a new inclusion to the PODW program of James Wood’s story – CHOICES via video.
James Wood from C&B Safe is an internationally recognised award winning Safety Speaker .His passion for sharing safety messages and educating employees, employers and management teams on the real impact of workplace injury has seen him share his message from the workshop floor to the boardroom. Woody as he is often known uses his experience of having a workplace injury and the knowledge gained from visiting workplaces for over 15 years to share the ways that we can all prevent workplace injury and fatality.
PODW attendees will be offered a special price should they wish to purchase the CHOICES Safety Training DVD to take back to the workplace.
