AFCA is pleased to be partnering with Australian Trucking Safety Services & Solutions (ATSSS) and KJ Training and Consulting to develop, improve and deliver a completely new program, combining our previous PODW Program and the ATSSS Heavy Vehicle Crash & Rollover Awareness Program which we will be launching to industry in the very near future.
PROFESSIONAL OWNERSHIP AND DRIVER WELLBEING PROGRAM (PODW)
'Human factors' have been the underlying causes of several recent crashes in heavy and light vehicles in the forest industry. The aim is of the PODW program is to guides participants to adopt a proactive, intrinsically motivated view of solutions to driving challenges.
The session is delivered over a 2 ½ hour session by two facilitators and:
Assists drivers and management to collaboratively develop personal management tools.
Challenges participants to examine personal ownership and responsibility for their own and the community’s safety and show them how to develop a personal risk reduction plan.
Builds on key learning outcomes from the Heavy Vehicle Rollover Awareness Program.
Note: The program naturally complements the Rollover Program but is structured as a standalone program so that is also suitable for all parties in the supply chain and drivers that have not participated in the Rollover Program. This includes drivers of light vehicles, and operators of loaders and harvesting equipment.
ATSSS HEAVY VEHICLE CRASH & ROLLOVER AWARENESS PROGRAM
The key to this session is creating engagement by providing awareness. The program is an extension of the successful VicRoads Heavy Vehicle Rollover Program. It takes the experience of many people from many parts of the transport industry and seeks to provide the participants extensive awareness and knowledge about what happens when a truck rolls and why.
# Note: The same principals apply to light and 4wd drive vehicles and specific content can be added to the session to suit target industry audience
By starting with an in-depth investigation of an actual rollover we explain in very simple terms, the complex nature of a rollover and take the audience through an interactive presentation about the physics involved. We communicate how centrifugal force, centre of gravity, speed and dynamic forces can act on a prime mover and its trailers to a point where the driver is unable to avoid the rollover. Illustrated with diagrams, truck models and interaction with the audience the messages on how a rollover occurs is clear.
Creating awareness, engagement & working as an industry.
Understanding crashes & rollovers
What happens when a truck rolls?
Why they roll & the forces involved
Understanding your vehicle, your load & your industry
Where trucks roll and identifying high risk locations.
The human factor.
The program also provides insight into freight task management. This is an exciting part of the program which ties together the information of the presentation for practical application. We work with the companies to plan the best approach to build on the outcomes of the program and the human capital invested by each company in attending the presentation.
