Professional Ownership and Driver Wellbeing program
Delivering over 30 free forestry sessions across Australia, specifically for drivers, management and staff within the forest industry.
In July 2019 the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) allocated $140K of heavy vehicle safety funding to AFCA to support the Professional Ownership and Driver Wellbeing program (PODW Program) through the 2019 Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative, supported by the Federal Government.
AFCA is pleased to be partnered with Australian Trucking Safety Services & Solutions (ATSSS) and KJ Training and Consulting to deliver the PODW Program which will provide fundamental psychoeducation tools, addressing the ‘human factors’, for those at highest risk within the forestry of a heavy vehicle accident.

About the PODW Program
The Professional Ownership and Driver Wellbeing (PODW) program was developed by ATSSS (Alan Pincott) and KJ Training and Consulting to address the ‘human factor's such as fatigue, inattention and complacency.
These 'human factors' have been the underlying causes of several recent crashes in heavy and light vehicles in the forest industry. The aim is of the PODW program is to guides participants to adopt a proactive, intrinsically motivated view of solutions to driving challenges.
The session is delivered over a 2 ½ hour session by two facilitators and:
- Assists drivers and management to collaboratively develop personal management tools.
- Challenges participants to examine personal ownership and responsibility for their own and the community’s safety and show them how to develop a personal risk reduction plan.
- Builds on key learning outcomes from the Heavy Vehicle Rollover Awareness Program.
Note: The program naturally complements the Rollover Program but is structured as a standalone program so that is also suitable for all parties in the supply chain and drivers that have not participated in the Rollover Program. This includes drivers of light vehicles, and operators of loaders and harvesting equipment.
